Day 7 - Eureka to Cape Lookout

So we woke up in Eureka, CA and headed north up the 101. If you haven't driven this highway I HIGHLY recommend it! It is absolutely beautiful! We ran into some kids that were at our campground and they were biking all the way from L.A. to Vancouver on the 101. They said it was 2000 miles and they were taking 3 months to do it. Crazy! Anyway so we got a few miles out of town and saw a really cool beach. Brandon wanted to go run around, check out the water and collect some sand. I wanted to sleep, so I took a nap on the beach.

Now on to find some Redwood Trees. There were a couple of pics in particular that I was looking for. We stopped at some place called the Magical Trees but when we realized they wanted $14 to walk through the forest we decided to leave. 2 miles up the road we pulled off and walked through the forest for free! It's amazing what people will pay for.

Here's Brandon walking into the forest on a fallen Redwood. It's hard to explain the size of these things. You just have to see it and let your mind sort of absorb what it's seeing. These things are gigantic!

As we drove up the coast it seemed like there were endless scenic vistas and parks to pull off and monkey around. It would have been great to stop at all of them but we tried to hit the ones that looked the coolest. This one was pretty amazing. There were tons of birds and squirrels for Brandon.
Here's the "Squirrel Whisperer" working his magic again.

I really like this pic of the sea gull. I only wish that truck and car were different colors so it didn't blend so much.

One of the things on Brandon's list of things he had to see were Sea Lions. We stopped at the largest Sea Lion cave in the world but they were closed. We drove up the coast a little way and found some hanging out on the rocks.

Sea Lions sunbathing.

After that we were back on the road to Cape Lookout where we were camping that night. I thought it would be a super quick drive and we would make it there with plenty of time to spare but the 101 is the slowest part of our trip so far. Partly because of the winding roads and partly because it's so beautiful you don't want to go fast, you just want to creep down the road and take it all in.

This is the sun setting over the Pacific Ocean. It's quite a site to behold.
